Like zhelena said, what a weirdly worded question! I guess it's trying to ask you about something you really wouldn't like to the extent that you'd say "I wouldn't be caught dead doing that"?

In which case, seems as good a time as any to tell the story about the plans for a weekend with diffrentcolours' family coming up: the other day he told me that his mum had suggested something like "and then in the morning, the guys can help with any little projects around the house, and us girlies can go into town and go wedding dress shopping!" (because D's sister is getting married).

I just looked at him, tried not to laugh, and said "I asuume you told her that for these purposes I am a boy, right?" Yeah, if these are the two genders, DIY and wedding-dress shopping, I know which one I am. I didn't even want to go wedding-dress shopping for my own wedding dress...

I am so highly suspicious of weddings though. Pretty amusing anecdote!

Yeah, it's made me laugh every time I've thought of it since.

Ironically, I earn a lot of my living doing bridal alterations, but "girly" is the last way I see myself. For me, the job is about the geometry and problem solving. And the happy expressions of the people who see a better fitting garment when I'm done is pretty ego-boosting, too.
I strongly dislike shopping, especially the trying on things part.

Wedding dress shopping was a highly ritualized and gendered experience for me. I didn't get a dress that needed much for alterations, though, because I only had 3-4 months to do everything before the wedding and even finding a dress took a bunch of that time.

That's certainly some gendering going on there, isn't it?

We both agreed it was a little weird/out of character for D's mum. I think this is part of why I find it so funny, though.
