I had both a flu shot and a covid booster this morning, as planned a couple of days ago. I'm feeling fine, the arms are trading off in which is noticeably sore for a minute but otherwise I'd forget it had happened. I'm sleepy but having wanted to go to bed by 6pm is normal for me this time of year (and the clocks change today so I look forward to wanting to go to bed at 5pm!).

And since [personal profile] diffrentcolours drove me to the covid vaccine place and knew there was a pub with lots of outdoor seating nearby, and the weather was nice, we went there for lunch afterwards. My first pub food since March 2020! I was so damn excited to see a halloumi burger and a stupid little bucket of sweet potato fries. What a lovely treat for being a brave boy about the needles.

The guy doing the covid one was so sweet; he asked if I was okay with needles and when I said I wasn't suggested I look away: "I'll have my eyes on it, so you don't have to!" I said I didn't usually cry at them these days and he very matter-of-factly said "A lot of people cry. We have tissues..." and then checked to make sure that they did. He said (or was it [personal profile] diffrentcolours talking about his friend who volunteers? works? at a vaccine place down south) some people cry because they're so emotional about getting it, they're so relieved, which I can see. I didn't cry, before or now, but I did feel like I was participating in something momentous for my first shot, in February.

Even after we got back home from the pub lunch, I had a nice afternoon. I helped [personal profile] mother_bones with some gardening which involved my favorite kinds: lifting heavy things and playing in the dirt. And chatting to the nice lady whose name I still don't know who hopefully no longer thinks I'm one of [personal profile] mother_bones's sons when I went to buy compost (twice!) and straw mulch.

While [personal profile] mother_bones and I were in the front yard re-potting plants, we met a very excitable terrier called PJ who was somehow thirteen years old despite bouncing around like a puppy (terriers are great for this; no one believes how old Gary is either), while [personal profile] diffrentcolours was having a cozy time with our own terrier and a duvet and the day bed; his early morning and lunchtime pint made for a nice snoozy afternoon.

It's been a nice day.

That sounds like a great day. I haven't had halloumi before that I remember, but looked it up and I know I've had similar cheese that fries up well. I think it often has seeds on it for flavoring.

Brave, indeed!
