The corner shop is now operating out of a hatch that one of the front windows has been repurposed into, so no one has to go in any more. (The big sign next to the big sign telling us to use the hatch says they're doing free deliveries too, which is nice.)

It's pretty great, I'd shop like this all the time if I could! "Just tell people what you want and they have to go find it and bring it to you" is a blind person's dream.

It was so much like a late-night petrol garage that it was all I could do not to ask for ten Kit Kats and a motoring atlas, though. I've been earwormed ever since.

Hurrah for Covid changes being a positive for you, I can absolutely see why that would be awesome. It's normal for newsies where my cousins live cos their area can be a bit rough...

I mean, when there was no covid I just made Andrew go to the corner shop to get snacks for me, so it's a similar kind of "tell someone what you want and they have to go get it" from my perspective :)

Some of our restaurants have built take-out windows like that. Now if only people wouldn't stand in line outside right next to one another.

Free deliveries is great.

Finally, parts of the world are doing things that disabled folks have asked for for forever.

People are lining up at a distance here, so that's nice. The sidewalk is only big enough for one person to be in anything that looks like a line, but when I was there people were good at hovering nearby and not arguing about what order we'd arrived in.

The deliveries aren't relevant to me since this store is so close (I think Andrew (who used to do all this kind of shopping) managed to get there and back in under two minutes for the kind of stuff we normally pick up there, like milk and drinks and snacks) and the delivery us free on orders of over £30, which we never spend there (more like £3!). But I'm glad to know it exists.

I put a version of this on Mastodon too and a friend replied with "I got tuna sweetcorn, TUNA SWEETCORN!" so I think the earworminess is strong with this one. :)

How do the hatch thing work? Can you just deliver your shopping list and they find it and deliver it to you? SOunds brilliant!

It's only a tiny store, and I was only there to get one thing, so I just said "can I have some milk?" and some appeared. I'd love to do this with a whole big shopping list though, that'd be great. :)
