cosmolinguist9 What’s your favorite “comfort food” when you’re feeling down or unwell?
An ironic question when I'm struggling with food. Sometimes none of it seems comforting.
It depends what kind of down or unwell I'm feeling. Right now I have a sore throat, which makes me want things with honey in them: yogurt, oatmeal, tea... Whisky, maybe!
Sometimes when my throat hurts I'll make mashed potatoes (the only time I make mashed potatoes) with chunks of apple in them and lots of cheese and garlic.
When I really need comfort food I really am not very good at food shopping/preparation, so that affects things too. I like oatcakes and hummus as a thing that's both very easy for me to eat and reasonably good for me.
I kind of default to cheese and carbs as comfort food, but if one of the things wrong with me is that I haven't been eating enough vegetables, I can honestly consider a good salad or soup to be comfort food because I'll almost certainly feel so much better after eating them.
Also noodles; they're so satisfying. I make an easy peanut butter sauce for noodles and vegetables and that's very comforting.

This feels really disjointed and dull but you should see the essay I'm writing about locutionary acts and illocutionary force and perlocutionary effects. I'm not saying it's dull, I'm just saying all my writing ability is going there today.

Date: 2020-01-09 11:18 pm (UTC)We have food issues here. So many of them. My personal favorite comfort food varies a bit, but nearly always bread/crackers/noodles/rice. Chicken or turkey broth. Tea with lemon/honey. Dark chocolate.
