She is, but it's (POSSIBLY) not quite that bad. Holly edited her LJ entry, but the edit hasn't gone over here, so here's the edit:
Edit: My mom called when I was out, and now I've been able to talk to her (and my aunt, and my grandma, and my dad) and things are sounding slightly less grim. My grandpa did have a very severe stroke but he is getting very good care. They're doing tests now to see how badly his body was affected (he fell, too) and there is talk of physical therapy and hopefully moving him back to the nearby hospital soon. My family sound reasonably optimistic.
Andrew has been an absolute star, supporting me in everything from promising to sort me out a plane ticket if I need it, to just having put a cup of tea in front of me.
What you might not know, because the f-locked LJ post doesn't appear to have copied across (though I don't think it was a secret) is that Holly's aunt, her mother's youngest sister, died on Monday, and that's probably one of the triggers for this. It's been an absolutely shitty week for her family :-/
On the plus side, her granddad's being treated at the Mayo Clinic, which means his chances are about as good as they're going to get. That's still not great, of course -- he's in his 80s, and has dementia and an inoperable heart condition -- but with luck we'll have another Xmas or two with him yet.
I did know, thank you. I have Holly friended in both places - though I should fix this as I never read past a post I've read before so duplicating people leads to mistakes. I just usually comment on DW.
Just seen this after the edit, glad things are less bad than possibly feared but sorry it's happening cos ir's stressful and horrible for your Granddad, family and you being over here and not easily there.
Just seen this, I'm so sorry. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. To make that less of a generic response - I can definitely offer tea, talking, distraction, company, taking you out for POD breakfast and suchlike things over the next 3 days because I'm off over the next few days.
