And I still have ice cream on my face
Dec. 19th, 2003 09:39 pmI've realized that the movies I see in theatres, and even the movies I own, are not always the ones I like the best or the ones I consider worth seeing.
This is due not just to chance (i.e. buying tickets for movies that aren't worth it, like A.I., or getting movies as gifts that I would not buy myself, like Cast Away) but also to the social nature of movies: I may not want to watch Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but I could easily want to be around people who do. Besides, my impressions are often mistaken. Not all movies I think are bad turn out that way (and the same is true for movies I think are good).
I saw The Cat in the Hat with Katie and Josh tonight. I was thrilled to, not because I was excited to see this movie (though I did enjoy it; I wouldn't mind living in a world imagined by Dr. Seuss). It was just what happened to be playing tonight, when we felt free of our stress at last. We'd already gotten bored, sitting around doing nothing all day.
It's my last night in town, too; my parents are coming to get me tomorrow morning and so Katie and Josh probably won't see me for the next month.
After the movie, we went to Don's and enjoyed their famous shakes and toast. After a day alone--Sarah left this morning--it seemed just what I needed.
