Unsere Fernsteuerung ist kaputt
Jan. 23rd, 2003 09:40 amJenn was watching the TV and I was ignoring it. How often does that happen? She says she hates TV and all. But when The West Wing was over and I was picking up the remote to turn off the TV, she walked in from her bath and heard "In the criminal justice system..." blah blah blah, however that show starts, and she said "Ooo!" So she watched it, and I tried to ignore it. When it was over I caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of my eye, one arm hanging from her top bunk, holding the remote and flailing in obvious futility.
"Having problems?" I said.
"It doesn't work!" she said in a silly voice, but I don't think she was talking to me.
"Push the 'TV' button." We'd been through this once before; there was a time she thought I'd broken the remote because of this little detail.
She pushed it, but still nothing happened this time. I took it and tried pushing buttons from my angle. Nothing happened.
I looked at it, looked at her, thought for a second, and said, "Du hast es gebrochen!" (I think I got it right. This kind of thing is still difficult for me, if it's a verb I don't know...and I don't know that many.) Jenn's German never reached the lofty heights I have attained in the language, but anyone could understand a sentence that ends with "broken."
She looked up at it and me, and said, "Kaputt?"
Kaputt indeed.
