cosmolinguistI got an e-mail from Matthew this morning with that subject line. I found that curious at first but then realized I knew what he must be talking about. I was right.
It said:
As much as I agree with his sentiments, I found this amusing enough to start giggling and make those near me in the library glance over at me. But the amusement is short-lived; the frustration and unhappiness will last longer... One of the reasons I'm not in my American politics class right now is that I don't want to hear about it. Republicans won everything, and their majority in the House and Senate does not bode well for my wish to avoid invading Iraq. Minnesota has replaced Wellstone and Ventura with Coleman and Pawlenty. I can't believe it. I'm so disappointed.
I'm not the only one. Erin is spouting what she thinks is the righteous wrath (and overanalyzation) of a College Democrats co-chair. Matthew, not usually an advocate of violence, wants to break something. Jenn wants to move to Canada. I'm developing a horrible tendency to vote for people who don't get elected, yet I will persist in living in Minnesota...and voting. But I may have to break something.
It said:
I just checked the Star Tribune online, and found out that Republicans now have a majority in both houses of congress. WHAT KIND OF MORONS VOTE IN THIS COUNTRY!? I want to break something.

Date: 2002-11-06 12:06 pm (UTC)I am also dispointed with how things turned out. But now is not the time to stick your hand in the sand (or move to Canada). Remember that there are bigger fish to fry in two years and that race begins today. If you want to things to change, you have to make them change. Change peoples minds on the issues and support the canidates that share your beliefs (and voting is only one step in the process).
