More bad news

So my mom's sister -- the nice one who moved back to Minnesota to look after my grandma who couldn't stay in her house on her own -- has cancer. All my mom's told me about it is "she'll need surgery as well as chemo."

My grandma, meanwhile, has just been told she has macular degeneration.

Apart from these things being awful anyway, of course, I'm sad and worried about my mom, who ads well as having these to deal with as emotional crises, will also be left witn a lot of the care that here would be done by the NHS or social services.

My grandma won't get the sight-loss assessments and support I did, my aunt's care will depend on what the family can afford because she has no money...I know the UK welfare system is sorely lacking but it still makes what my family put up with seem barbaric. It'll be hard on all of them. My mom's already said she wants a list from us of what we'd like for Christmas as she doesn't expect to have much time or energy for shopping. How festive. :/

I wondered what support there was for things like "becoming blind" in your parents land. I guessed there would be a lot more on your parents. So sorry, it is barbaric, it's absolutely barbaric.
