Yesterday I defrosted the freezer -- an oddly satisfying experience, though my hips are paying now for the amount of time I sat on the hard floor yesterday, chipping at ice with a butter knife and nudging bowls of boiling water around.

I think it's satisfying both because it's a reassuringly grown-up activity ("You'll be cleaning the oven next," [livejournal.com profile] emma_b79 said when I told her how I'd spent my morning) and also like a school science project. Seeing how the ice had formed, and then how it melted away, was oddly captivating.

I also managed to make the kitchen floor dangerously soggy, scrape a couple of knuckles, and even burned myself, but hey.

Today I'm living up to my twitter username; sending e-mails about Lib Dem stuff and looking forward to beer and chips Biphoria tonight. But it's been a kind of heavy and disappointing day too -- two upcoming conferences I wanted to go to (one on Friday already!) I can't, thanks to a lack of money or people (possibly me) getting their shit together or both, all of which is lending a dim pallor to the otherwise bright sunshiny day.

I would recommend a small hammer instead of a butter knife, it works much better.
