Battery life
Dec. 30th, 2011 02:12 pmI had never thought about what I'd do when I got back. I seem to have reverted to old habits: I put on my pajamas (but these new soft warm ones I got for Christmas), smoothed out the duvet, and looked for my mp3 player. I'm not tired, but the house is freezing; nowhere's cozier than under the covers.
I'm pleased that my mp3 player still has some charge. Traveling is usually hard on it, but this time I slept a lot and actually watched a movie (Moneyball, which I loved in an entirely different way than the first time I saw it, but still just as strongly) so I didn't ask too much of my poor old mp3 player.
I feel like I too have arrived back here with surprisingly undepleted batteries.
Andrew's just gone to the bank to arrange lending some money to his sister so she can pay her rent. He told me how glad he was that he can help out his siblings like this, and it's obvious on his face. We had to borrow a similar sum from her to get us through until payday a couple of months ago; usually by this time of the month we're the ones looking to borrow money to cover expenses.
I'm still so unused to having a bank account that's anything other than depleted that I am very grateful for this.
I've just entered my fourth decade of life; we're about to start a new year; I feel on top of life for the first time since I was...18? 19?
Here's to a 2012 that's something better than depleted.

Date: 2011-12-30 09:35 pm (UTC)This year we really lucked out -- as Andrew's sister said, being able to hang on to all our own stuff and no racism is not a very high bar to set for a holiday, but it's one Andrew and I hadn't reached in recent years.
So having probably our easiest Christmas-since-married yet helped a lot in the recovery now that I'm back (though with no particular huge issues, it's easier for me to feel homesick, but that's aissue I can deal with).
I wish you similar good fortune in your recent and future celebratory endeavors, whatever they may entail.
