Facelift

Andrew's dad just called and asked me "Has Andrew Hughes had a facelift?"

I have had a headache all day. He's lucky I could manage to say "What?"

"The Liberal politician."

"...Do you mean Simon? Simon Hughes..." That helped a little, but I was still left with a question I find utterly unanswerable. I have once been at the other end of a room from Simon Hughes, but I don't really know what he looks like, much less if it's different from how he used to look.

"He looks like a computer animation of himself. " This handily fits in to the theory he was telling Andrew and I about yesterday, how politicians and candidates shouldn't be filmed while they are in office. We shouldn't know what they look like.

I couldn't figure out what it was, so I had to ask [Andrew's mom] to come in and she said he's had an eyebrow lift. All his features are out of proportion, it's very odd."

And of course this had to be in the two minutes Andrew went to the shop across the road. Next time, I'll go get the milk.

I thought he was wearing an odd expression too, but I put it down to him trying to keep a diplomatically straight face and not grimace at David Cameron's performance.

I don't have a TV so I can't say, but that sounds likely to me. I'd have found it difficult not to grimace!

Andrew's dad has only recently stopped mocking Andrew for being a Lib Dem and blaming the Lib Dems for everything bad (or at least, enabling the Tories to do everything bad), so hearing "He looks like a computer animation of himself" is really quite an impressive step up for him.
