mother_bones said, so we did because they have a new fire pit. We inaugurated it with a charcoal fire, and just after we'd pulled up chairs around it I took a deep breath of the delicious smoke and said "I feel like I should have marshmallows to toast, or a beer in my hand." So strongly do I associate bonfires with these things. A beer I could've done, but marshmallows prove harder to find on this benighted island as I know well.
Not long afte, though,diffrentcolours came back from B&M with not just more beer (our favorites: Platform 6.1, Ginger Tom and Headspace) but also a big bag of the big marshmallows that are so perfect for this.
So we toasted marshmallows on the fire, and then had a dinner of "other things we can put on the fire": hot dogs, halloumi, vegetables on skewers....
We sat and chatted as it got dark, a special treat and a cozy evening to finish what has been for me a long and fairly miserable week.
