I only went downstairs to get the half of my sub that I didn't eat at Subway yesterday, and when I was there I noticed that Michele was watching Jeopardy, and I haven't seen Jeopardy forever. I sat down on the floor and took a bite or two of my sub. The first round of Jeopardy was over and they went to commercial. I wasn't really paying attention, because Michele and I were trying to decide if Jeopardy had changed its set recently and agreeing that this set wasn't as cool. "It hurts my eyes!" she said.

So it wasn't until the Perkins commercial was half over that I noticed it. There was steaming piles of linguine, and sauce being stirred, and all these things arranged nicely on plates. "That looks really good," I said. Even though I was eating a sub--I think I said this with a bite of sanwich in my mouth. "Yeah, it does..." Michele said.

Pause.

"Do you want to go to Perkins?" Michele asked.

"Sure!" I said immediately. I always want to go places like Perkins, Target, movies, anything that is hard to attain when you live in the middle of nowhere. Everything is hard to attain when you live in the middle of nowhere. But I was just answering the question she asked, that didn't mean I thought I was going to Perkins.

But Michele had a car, and she wasn't bothered by skipping jazz band, and we'd both had good days. She got an A on a paper she'd written in a hurry and hoping for a C on. I was just elated to be done with classes until next Monday and have no real homework commitments to worry about. And to not be working. After three nights of interrupted sleep I'm so happy I can go to bed when I want and stay there until whenever I feel like it.

This is why I say ad agency people must like me. I'm so suggestible. Food commercials often make me hungry. Not necessarily for the kind of food in them...sometimes I don't even like the kind of food in them, but that's not the point! Still, Arby's commercials are worst, because I love Arby's, and I never get to go there. (Middle of nowhere, remember? The nearest Arby's is, I think, an hour away.)

We got in the car and drove to Alexandria and met Michele's boyfriend Matt, who livee there, and all three of us got pasta. Mine was penne with "spicy marinara." It was definitely spicy, but I liked it a lot...at least until I ran out of cherry Coke.

We went to Target too. That was fun. I bought a hat that matches my gloves and scarf (which are also from Target, surprisingly) and a scented candle. I don't know if I've ever specifically purchased such a thing before, but it's a good scent and I'm happy about it. Michele and I smelled lots of candles and got each other's opinions on them; all Matt would ever tell us is that they smelled like wax.
