Our usual rota is to swap Gary between my bedroom and mother_bones's bedroom eat night, but he's been sleeping in my room the whole time this eye trauma situation has been going on, a few weeks now.
Normally on his nights with MB he sleeps on his own little bed in a corner of her room, and on his nights with me he sleeps in my bed.
But when we brought Gary back from the hospital on Wednesday, I put his little bed in my room because he wasn't good at jumping or dealing with even familiar distances yet then. (There was no question of him sleeping anywhere else; he's been in my room every night for weeks, since this eye stuff started.)
Of course, contrarian little soul that he is, he jumped up on my bed that night just fine, and stayed there.
I sorta forgot about his little bed, after I'd tucked up in a corner of the room, until a couple nights ago. Then, in the middle of a night when he just couldn't settle, he found the bed, unrolled it, spent ages punching it into just the right shape, and then slept soundly there the rest of the night.
The next night, he tucked himself into bed there without even trying to get on my bed.
Last night, he slept there even when I snuck off to the spare room to catch up on all the snuggles I haven't been getting lo these many weeks.
And yesterday, a sleepy rainy day, Gary took himself there during the daytime. Of all the many places in the house he can sleep, especially during the day, he chose this! It has been so heartwarming to see him making himself comfy. This dog never ceases to amaze me.
