[301/365] pumpkin cottage

cosmolinguistI'm so tired. There's about three entries I want to write that I won't today (I always say I'll come back to them and I rarely do; I've at least made notes this time!).
I'm tired partly because I, having read this article the other day and finding it so relatable it was kinda spooky, I find myself awake at 2:42am this morning and if not exactly dwelling on my fears and shortcomings, instead shuddering at the nightmare I'd woken up from where Gary had somehow disappeared while I was taking him for a walk and stressful and convoluted attempts to find out what'd happened to him were unsurprisingly unsuccessful (it was a very poorly plotted dream, even in the dream I was thinking "...this doesn't make any sense, how will this help?").
My stress dreams always used to be about traveling; now I don't do that so they're often about Gary. This time I woke up next to him, snoring gently and reassuring me this is the superior timeline.
And I didn't get back to sleep until like 7:30, so that was like another hour and a half on top of the two or three I'd had before.
Nobody slept well (except Gary), we all had a quiet morning until I had therapy I forgot about and when that was done I went tohaggis's to help out and talk about cricket and hold a baby.
And when I got homemother_bones was having a difficult phone call and after that we were like gosh we both had exhausting afternoons and didn't sleep and generally have no spoons! And then we were like: let's carve a pumpkin!
I forget how much heckin work it can be. But it's also really fun and we both really enjoyed it.
I looked up cute stencils for pumpkin carving and then the printer won't turn on so we've ended up really wanting to do the design we found (pumpkin cottage!) but also just totally free-handing it. So we've picked something more ambitious than we would've if we set out knowing it would be freehand.
It was fine! We put cute tiny decorations to on this "house" and we only had to cut windows and a door!mother_bones made shingles out of pumpkin seeds. And because we have so many styrofoam gravestones outside our own house now, I've taken the cut-out window bits (which were supposed to be sort of arched and are therefore approximately the right shape) and made them into little gravestone-looking things to go outside the pumpkin cottage.
We put it outside just as a car drove up with our takeaway, probably thinking we're weird people who stand out in the wind and rain for no reason.
And now we're watching the Halloween Doof and I'm feeling very accomplished.
