When I was getting dressed this morning, I heard [personal profile] mother_bones talking to what I figured must have been a delivery person, and then after she closed the door she told Gary "It's a present for your papa." I hadn't ordered anything and wasn't expecting any presents!

When I got downstairs I saw the box, it was a lawnmower. "Present for you!" [personal profile] mother_bones said. She was very amused that the brand is called Cobra. I was all here for the big dad energy of it.

I talked about strimming the lawn, but I didn't talk about when the strimmer broke a month or two later. So the grass has been left to grow for a couple of months now, and there were parts of the lawn where Gary looked like he was bounding through the savanna more than on a suburban lawn, heh. The lawnmower purchase waiting on the shed to have its more secure lock and hinges, and that was [personal profile] diffrentcolours's and my project last Sunday, so [personal profile] mother_bones must have ordered the lawnmower pretty soon after.

She had indeed gotten me a push lawnmower, a non-motorized one. After checking with me that I was really okay with it, and I was. It's less appealing for someone to nick, it's better for the environment, it's cheaper, and as [personal profile] mother_bones told me when she'd first threatened to buy it, it's a way to get hench now that I can't go to the gym, haha.

It really was too, especially now that the grass was so long and very wet. It was hard going in some parts and I did that thing of telling myself I didn't have to do the whole yard today and then feeling okay to do it anyway. [personal profile] mother_bones was really impressed at how well the lawnmower and/or I had done. It left me sweaty and gross and still kind of exhausted -- I'd foolishly planned to make dinner after this and was extremely relieved when [personal profile] diffrentcolours volunteered! he hadn't even known what I was up to -- but feeling so accomplished. I had a shaker, ate my kiev and rice, took the dog for a walk, and now I'm wondering when it can be bedtime.

Oh, a push mower is so difficult on longer, wetter grass. next time around, it might be easier.

Woo, mower!

About how much grunt power do they take normally? I've got a gas one, but I've also got a small lawn and having something that I can just push around to cut with seems like a decent idea.

& push mowers are so much kinder to any of your neighbours who might be sensitive to loud lawnmower noise

(She says, having been bothered by loud lawnmower noise for far too long this morning...)
