[51/365] some poetry today
Feb. 20th, 2021 11:06 pmI can't get the formatting right, but here's my favorite bit of this excellent poem I read today, At Age 28, Chilean Astronomer Maritza Soto Has Already Discovered Three Planets, by Vincent Toro
I like to supposeAnd then because of that I read Mail-Order Planets by Adrian Matejka
that our gente were never erased
but rather beamed to a star system
that does not regard them as merely tool
or trinket, a galaxy where their dreams
are as important as those
who dwell in some imaginary
North.
Behind a mirrored visor, the singing inside
my American-flagged extravehicular mobility unit
so robust it could keep a black boy from Indiana breathing
in outer space.
