[275/366] the Brothers Larry

Andrew publishes his podcast transcripts, and I'm editing the latest book of them.

This, his magnum opus, represents extensive research and devotion to the subject. I'm delighted for everyone to support the podcast and buy the books, it's very well done, it's just...not my cup of tea (especially after I've been hearing about it so much in the last two years; only eight left to go!). But some things lighten it up: The chapter on Buddy Holly keeps referring to him by his surname, which is normal, but means I keep seeing my name (one of them, anyway) and being confused because I haven't done any of these things.

And then a fact-check Andrew's already added:

The bass player on that song, Larry [THIS IS FALSE! IT WAS HIS BROTHER ALSO CALLED LARRY!]

Now therein lies a tale, I'm sure, I thought, but when I took a break and Andrew asked me "Have you found anything interesting in the book at all?" I told him about the Brothers Larry, it turns out I'd misunderstood the note and Larry was the brother of someone else and not of the other Larry after all.

When Andrew told me that, I had to say "Well in that case no, I haven't found much interesting in the book!"

You're a good & kind partner to copyedit boring things with too many Larrys. (Though actually, it's easier for me to copyedit things I have zero knowledge of -- keeps the rabbit-hole-seeker disconnected.)

I'm not just doing this to be kind; if this book sells it helps mean I get to eat. :) And I don't mind dull work; it's the best kind for not making me too anxious.

I like editing non-fiction more than fiction, and this is a nice mix of stuff I know relatively well -- I have a reasonable knowledge of music as something to listen to and to make -- and stuff I don't know, which is all the specifics because this isn't my favorite kind of music and I don't have the sort of mind that seeks out encyclopedic knowledge of even my favorites in the way that Andrew's does. So I'm pretty safe from rabbit-holes anyway, luckily. :)

There was a sit-com about a guy name Larry who would introduce "My brother Darryl and my other brother Darryl" or something very similar to that. Set in a New England inn, Bob Newhart, maybe?

I do have a brother Daniel and a step-brother Daniel so it's not completely implausible :-)
