My new audiobook is a Sandi Toksvig one about manners. And, ironically, I cannot listen to it on this train because even at full volume, the couple dozen lagered-up young white men in this carriage are louder. I swear the decibel level is somewhere around Jet Engine.

The train has stopped, not at a stop, and I don't know why. No chance of hearing any announcements even if there are any. It's a good thing I'm getting off at the last stop because I have no chance of knowing which is which otherwise.

A very ale-trail looking crowd when we finally get to Staly, too. They're quieter and less unsettling CAMRA types, of course, but there are still a lot of them.

What are CAMRA types?

CAMRA is the Campaign for Real Ale - a bit more middle-class, people who drink posher 'craft' beers rather than whatever is cheap. Less likely to start a fight with someone for having the wrong hair colour, dress sense, etc than the lager crowd.

What in Perth, Australia would be "Western suburbs types"

and in Sydney, Australia would be "Eastern suburbs types"

[in both cases, the bit of the city next to the beach is much more expensive.]

Yeah. Bordering on hipster but a slightly different aesthetic because they probably like the beer for the taste rather than the chic rarity.

Yeah, I used to be a CAMRA member (what they call "real ale" is the only kind of beer I like) but the demographic is more middle-class. middle-aged (or older) white men. They're perfectly fine to be around but since the train I was getting featured the first half or so of the stops on the Ale Trail, and it was a warm weekend afternoon, there were absolutely tons of them on the platforms, and trying to get on the trains, at the last five stops (and I wanted the very last).

That's a shame. I like Sandi. Would that the drunk boys would depart at their stop soon.

Oh we were only on the train for half an hour. Could've been worse.

I like Sandi too. :)

Made it home fine, and much more smoothly. Phew.
