Fridges and food
Jul. 25th, 2018 09:45 amOur fridge slowly died over the last little while. I think it was going on for a while and I didn't notice until we couldn't keep milk in the house for more than a day, and then I took some sweet potato fries out of the freezer and they were soft.
So I just bought a new fridge online, which is a stressful thing to do really. They all look the same in the pictures! And I wanted a bigger fridge than we had but I couldn't get one too tall because well they were more expensive but more importantly there is nowhere to put the microwave in my terrible tiny kitchen except on top of the fridge, so I have to be able to reach the damn microwave.
The other day I was out of the house at lunchtime and I got myself a sandwich and a drink and a snack deal from a supermarket and I had fruit for the snack and I was excited about how cold the fruit was. This is when I knew it had been too long without refrigeration.
The new fridge had already been ordered but it was difficult to be patient. Especially because it got hot again the last couple days, and there were no ice cubes or cold water in the house. It turned up yesterday and we had to wait all day before I could plug it in. I was a bit late meeting my friends to go to the WI meeting so that I could throw the food into the fridge or freezer.
I had to throw away some bacon but otherwise I think we salvaged all the food which I'm really proud of. Andrew was nervous about a lot of stuff, which makes sense as he's the meat eater, but also he's just generally so much more cautious about things like use-by dates. And feel more cavalier but maybe I'm just because I'm better at cooking, more confident in judging whether food is okay because I'm more used to seeing okay food and non-okay food.
So it was appropriate that our talk at the WI last night was about The Real Junk Food project and food waste generally. It was really good. While growing up on a farm and getting a veg box and reading about food supply lines thanks to Brexit meant I wasn't surprised about much, it was clearly new to a lot of people and everybody really enjoyed it. I was honestly kind of tired of thinking about what to do with salad that's starting to go off (pesto is good!) but it was a funny coincidence.

Test comment, delete if you want to
Date: 2018-08-30 08:03 am (UTC)OK, this...appears to work better, in that it isn't impossible to go back and edit text, and I'm not typing into a void.
No idea whether it will also work for posting entries, but it seems worth a try.
How uncanny.

Date: 2018-08-30 08:19 am (UTC)My issue is that the scrolling behaviour gets weird and then sometimes the text is displayed outside of the text box, which makes it hard to select any of the stuff below the post, or move around within the post.
I could always set up posting-via-e-mail properly.
Still, I think I'll be changing my style settings later; making comments easier (even if it means forcing everything into my style) would be great.
