Since I need a break from studying...
Apr. 29th, 2018 11:18 am1. Have you ever driven an electric car?
No.
2. Do you live in an area that is prone to tornadoes?
Not any more. But my dad helped build the house my parents still live in, and that I did until I moved out, after a tornado damaged the one he'd grown up in.
3. How many closets does your house have?
None, I really miss them. But there's not enough room in houses here to devote corners of it to that kind of thing. I have freestanding wardrobes left here by the people who'd had this house before (and really I see why; I want something different).
4. When was the last time you saw someone you went to high school with?
Must be many years ago now. Like five?
5. Have you ever eaten moussaka?
I don't usually like it because eggplant/aubergine is not a favorite, but there was a gorgeous one at James's sister's wedding that I stll remember years later!
6. What breed was the last dog you saw?
Jack Russell. He's sleeping on the bed ne
7. How long have your parents been together (or how long were they together, if they no longer are)?
Next month will be 46 years!
8. What has been your most epic cooking failure?
I burned some fudge so badly over Christmas we had to send my dad to the store for more ingredients to try again.
9. Do you read other people's survey answers on here?
Of course!
10. What's your bedtime routine?
Go upstairs, follow excited dog into bedroom, sit on my bed for probably too long (I rarely have any executive function left at night), put on pajamas, go brush teeth, take meds, play games on my phone until I'm tired, usually put on an audiobook or something to listen to while I fall asleep.
11. Do you agree with the saying 'distance makes the heart grow fonder'?
No. I think it was invented to make people feel better when distance was an inevitability. You know more about a person when you're in close proximity to them day-to-day. There are a lot of gaps in that knowledge with a distant person, and it's too easy to imagine what you'd like to be the case.
12. Have you ever been to Mexico?
No.
13. Do you have a bad temper?
I don't think so?
14. When was the last time it stormed where you live?
I got hailed on walking to the bus stop on Wednesday, but it doesn't really storm here. Haven't seen any thunder or lightning yet this spring.
15. Do you ever fact-check the things you read on the internet?
Of course. Mostly I've learned that a lot of the alarming headlines I see on Facebook these days come from Evolve Politics or The Canary and I can disregard them.
16. How long would it take you to walk to the nearest store?
The corner shop is about a minute's walk away. Another minute to wait to get across the busy road and I'm at the quite nice (South) Asian supermarket.
17. What five words best describe your mother's personality?
Caring, cautious, concerned with propriety
18. Do you know any transgender people?
Yes, lots.
19. What's your dream job?
Consultant on what makes public spaces accessible to visually impaired people. Or a linguist who didn't have to go to school forever to be one.
20. How old were you when you got your first smartphone?
I was pretty late to that party. I think it was like 2012? So I'd have been 31 if that guess is right.
21. Have you ever had a parrot sit on your shoulder?
No.
22. In the morning, do you eat breakfast first or brush your teeth first?
Eat first.
23. What's something you had to learn the hard way?
To give more weight to Andrew's opinions of people I'm interested in.
24. What sort of window coverings do you have in your living room?
Curtains that my friend Lucy gave me; they're all pastel but they're lighter and not as horrible as the ones they replaced.
25.Has anyone in your life ever treated you abusively?
Yep.
26. What's the weather like right now?
Partly sunny has changed to partly cloudy.
27. How long has it been since your last breakup?
Um? Quite a long time, actually. Well, seven and a half.
28. Can you concentrate well while listening to music, or do you find it distracting?
It depends on the kind of music. I like ambient/chill/electronica to concentrate to, or a couple of albums I know super-well (PSB's The Race for Space is probably the best example of the latter).
29. What's the name of the amusement park closest to your house?
I have no idea which is closest to me.
30. Do you like The Rolling Stones?
Their 60s singles are okay.
31. What was the last single item you spent over $100 on?
It'll have been the mortgage or some kind of bill. I can't honestly think of any non-routine thing I've bought that costs that much otherwise. I hate spending money and I'm long out of practice at doing it!
32. What's something you've been struggling with lately?
Learning all the International Phonetic Alphabet symbols.
33. What was the last caffeinated drink you had?
I had a bottle of Coke on Friday afternoon with my lunch.
No.

Date: 2018-04-29 04:17 pm (UTC)#1 Can you drive? I can but hate it with a passion.
#2 Do tornadoes happen where you are?
#8 sounds unpleasant but I don't think anything rises to "epic" until rooms are burning.

Date: 2018-04-29 04:27 pm (UTC)2) No, the UK doesn't get the right kind of conditions for tornados.
8) Yeah there might have been something worse but nothing sprang to mind. I was pretty carefully watched as a kid (I made cookies with one cup of flour instead of two, and that sort of thing, when I was young and not good at paying attention, but that's all I can think of) and I don't do anything ambitious now.
