Is it too much, in the 21st century, to ask that display drivers work properly?

Have you or any dependent included in this application ever engaged in any other activities* which might indicate that you may not be considered to be persons of good character?

* Other than those specifically listed in previous questions: war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, or terrorism.

You know what this means? I finally started filling in the scary application for residency in the UK and filled it in. Well only the easy bits, but still! I'm feeling very proud of myself, don't ruin the moment.

Still worried about the not-easy bits, though (mostly all those old phone bills and bank statements; I cringe to think. We only recently upgraded our filing system from Cardboard Box, you know. It moved to Plastic Expandable Folder and, now that it's overflowing that, Plastic Expandable Folder and Two Cardboard Boxes. I will never be a grown-up at this rate.

See also, the first load of laundry fully, successfully completed in this house in at least a month, with a bedroom floor full of dirty clothes languishing in wait for their turn to be cleansed in the revitalizing suds. But there the clean clothes wait, still in the washing machine with its door open beckoningly, and here the dirty clothes lie, all around me, because here I lay, on the bed trying to think thoughts that at this point might never get thunk at all, rather than doing something constructive like laundry.

Rather than 'giant' it's 'numerous.' Or 'horrifying,' if you ask some.

1981, spot on. The last week or so of it, but that still counts. I hope to be as young as you seem when I'm as old as you are, even if it does mean the horrifying cardboard boxen. It seems a worthy trade-off to not be living the life of an accountant or something.

I had a filing cabinet in my third year of Uni, but I didn't have the paperwork to justify it. Now I have the paperwork, but not the cabinet.

The one consolation that I have re: filing cabinets is that even if I'd had one when I moved to the UK, even if I'd realized that I needed to save all this stuff for this point (which I did not), I was not in any state to have made use of it and so it would've been wasted on me.

They don't ask my eating (or chaotic) habits on the form. There are no checkboxes about it and no sections of squares to be filled with block capitals concerning the subject.

Sometimes thinking thoughts is more important than doing laundry.

Also, my Mum has been filing for years. Very organised. In a metal expandable folder thing. The grown-up thing to remember is that you are filing. How your system is organised is less important.

That's what I was thinking tonight, actually. Much as I'm wary of using it as an excuse to just lay around and do nothing for days on end, I actually find that it's a valid use of my time, just like work and chores and spending time with Andrew (and of course these things can overlap; they're hardly mutually exclusive). I didn't get much time to think, and none at all to talk, when I was visiting my family and I think I still have a backlog of thinking to get through. :)

Still haven't written the LJ entry stuck in my head, but when another friend asked me about these thoughts I was trying to think, I was able to explain in a way that, apparently, made sense to her. I'm still interested in the details I didn't get around to tying together yet, so I'm still trying to write them down (in my head, so far), but I'm feeling better about the thinky thoughts just as I am about my filing system and how it holds up to comparison.

I'd like to think that almost everything I remember doing in the course of the average month would be considered by a fair chunk of the population to prove me to not be a person of good character. Even if it is legal.
