Talking with a friend today about my upcoming bridal shower: "When I found out that your mom's friends were doing it," she said, "I thought Oh, so I'm glad I didn't get you the, y'know, dildo basket after all."

I know she didn't mean it. She can't come; she's not getting me anything anyway. But still, I can't get the image of a gift basket of dildos* out of my head now. I love it.

I was at a wedding shower where the couple was given (among other things) a collection of edible underwear. (The really amusing part was the reason why the two people who decided to get that gift had been late arriving.... it was backordered at the 'novelty' store and finally arrived the day of the party... so they arranged to meet the store owner at a parking lot somewhere about halfway between the store and the party so that they could pick up the package on the way. A cop came over because here's this exchange going on, late afternoon, in a random parking lot, involving a brown paper bag and some money. The cop was a little embarrassed to discover what the contents of the bag really were.)

And what's wrong with your spelling? I've never seen the plural of 'dildo' any other way. 'Dildoes' just doesn't look right.

Welllllll.... My brother's wife's obgyn (who was a friend of the family) and attended the same rather staid conservative church as my brother gave them a basket of lubes and toys for the shower... Let me tell you, there was quite the to-do over it, too!

Mind you, this was in South Carolina, nigh unto a decade ago, but still.....
