But what happened? Slick road or what?

No, the roads were good. He was not drunk. We're not exactly sure what happened yet (the trooper investigating the case was not available yesterday or this morning; if we got a hold of him since then I have not heard, but I spent a few hours with my friends), but my parents guess he may have fallen asleep for a second. It was after midnight, and the friends he'd just been with said he was tired. The road curved, and his car didn't turn. It hit a fairly steep embankment; I think it landed on the roof, but I'm not sure. He was only a mile or two from home. You can see our house from where it happened. It's a road we use all the time. I saw it four times today and it's impossible not to look, not to think about it.

True enough. I went with my parents in the morning to take care of all this stuff. I ended up answering a lot of the "date of birth?" and "address?" type questions because my mom either couldn't speak or couldn't remember. All these stupid tiny little details. And then picking a casket, which wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be ... and then seeing Chris. My dad didn't want to, but my mom needed to. She'd wanted to do it yesterday, but we managed to persuade her to wait until they'd made him a bit more presentable (the visible damage wasn't too bad, scratches on his face and some swelling, but his body had lain there so long that it was frozen ... Anyway, I didn't want to see him either, but I had to make sure my mom was okay. I offered her Kleenex and touched her back occasionally. Watching her was about the scariest thing that's ever happened to me...

So, gah! why am I talking about it now in an LJ comment?! Sorry; I only got about half an hour's sleep; I'm in no state to be talking about stuff.

I've just got to the internet. I just wanted to say that I'm thinking about you and your family a lot. I can't imagine how dificult this must be, and I hope that things go as well for you and your family can go, considering the circumstances.

My brother died 13 years ago. Although no one can understand how anyone else really feels, I know you are in pain and yet you are numb.

Oh, you won't be able to avoid it. I really wish I could have been there, but I would imagine calling Nova Tech and saying my friends brother died; can you fly me home and back for a weekend would not have been well accepted. I love you lots!
