Dunno. That's why I'm nervous. I put it in an e-mail, along with everything else I've done in the last three weeks, which is about how long it's been since they've gotten an e-mail from me (which is not the same as "since I sent them an e-mail," but I don't think the intervening ones got through, for one reason or another).
Yeah, and reasonably enough. But I'm too chicken. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I'm sure I'll hear about this from my mom--finding out important life changes by e-mail isn't how things usually work in my family--but I'm not too worried about that; nothing I can do about it at this point anyway. Besides, they're asleep now!
I imagine they will be eventually. But they won't want me to be so far away, and there's a good chance my mom will have a fit if the actual wedding is here rather than there.
But then, she might not. So often it's the things I never thought of that make her flip out, and the things I fret about that she's totally cool with.
I've noticed that with my parents, too. I hope you'll be pleasantly surprised by their reaction. Have they met Andrew yet? I imagine that will make a difference to how they take it.
They haven't, and she's been talking about how much she wants to all summer. And spring. I feel bad because I kept saying he'd come back with me when I did, but now he can't because he won't be able to take time off work until after I have to leave. (This is, actually, in the big E-Mail O' Doom I just sent, which also contains gems along the lines of "you didn't still think I'm coming back at the end of August, right? Oh, gods, I can't do that, because I have to go to London and my friend Seth's coming over next week...") And, well, we can't afford it anyway.
But they will get to meet him, before I come back here (which will be after Christmas). Unless something else happens unexpectedly.
Oh my god I can't believe you did that in an email. Perhaps a followup phone call would help ease the shock of it. Seriously, moms take things worse when they are notified impersonally.
"I let you live in my penthouse, you said it was just a shack I gave you seven children, and now you wanna give 'em back"
Eek, good luck! And congrats, of course. Don't worry, though. Other than go "oh no!" there's not much they can do to make things difficult or anything... and even if they do go, oh no, they will come round. So you'll be fine!
