There's a rose in the kitchen.

A red one. In the coffee press, like last time, because I still have nowhere else to put flowers. I never thought to plan for this contingency.

I got it from a random lady on the tram last night. I don't quite remember how this happened. So every time I go in the kitchen, I think Oh yeah, there's a rose from someone whose name I don't even know...

But I do know she bought a vibrator yesterday.

How do you know?

Because Holly is the Sherlock Holmes of sex toys. She deduced it from the woman's shoes.

Because her husband insisted on showing it to Holly. It was her 40th birthday present.

My mother gave me a weird and very pretty plastic vase that becomes flat when it isn't in use, thereby being good for storing. I should try and find out what it's called for you.

You could always get a second coffee-press.

a random lady on the tram

"Ooh yeah, random lay-deh
Randomize me tonight
You got the random factor
You toss my dice outta sight..."

It's gonna be a smash!

I've been given exactly 2 roses in my life. I don't especially like them, but am not one to turn down a flower. One was from a random man in a pub, and the other was from my friend Ruth.

One day at school I was wearing a black dress with a red rose print, and at lunch time Ruth found a single red rose left after the market, still intact but abandoned. So she brought it to school and gave it to me because it matched the dress. All afternoon I wandered around with that rose, and everyone asked "who's the rose from". I told everyone it was from Ruth and offered no further explanation beyond "it matches my dress" if pushed. Got some interesting looks that day.

I put it in my milk bottle sprayed gold when I got home. I have since lost that milk bottle. And the rose died. And the dress is gone, too.

I own THREE vases! I bought myself some gerberas (second fav flower) for my last-but-one birthday and saw a vase on the way home that would take them. It cost less than the flowers. Last birthday I bought myself some tulips (fav flower) and did the same thing with the vase. Tulips are shorter than the gerbera vase. The third came from Grannie, who won a crystal vase in a raffle and doesn't need any more, but knew I like flowers.

All three vases sit under the sink for about 50 weeks a year. Yet I love flowers. I should buy more.

I think my birthday time puts me at an advantage, vase-buying wise, though. There doesn't seem to be a big market for vases in early january, and it's the sales.
