I was waiting at the coach station for [livejournal.com profile] tiltcorazon and [livejournal.com profile] stealthmunchkin when I saw this building across the street.

Love this one.

You should climb up there at night and put rucksacks on them, they'll be shot to bits by midday.

Well, the last two pictures have been pretty darn good.

I hope that didn't come across as judgmental on my part - I'm saying that since the two pics you've posted have been cool, then heck yeah, we want to see them all. It's all so foreign there.

And were there pictures of the karaoke.

Any pictures of the karaokes have been taken by Holly's friends, who thankfully seem more reticent about putting these things online ;)

I was just thinking about the only time I ever did karaoke, at a friend's wedding - it was the best and worst experience of my life. The best was when this guy and I teamed up to do "More Than Words" with me on the higher harmony. Immaculate. And then later on when I was SHITFACE DRUNK I decided it would be good to do Journey's "Separate Ways" in a higher key than I could comfortably reach. And when I say "comfortably" I means "ever".

I'm fine with karaoke so long as I'm doing comedy (my Johnny Cash impression, Monster Mash or my 'polite Englishman' version of Fred Schneider's part in Love Shack). Those times when I've tried to sing properly (California Girls and Fun Fun Fun) have been hideous.

Now the Love Shack I'd like to see. That reminds me of Peter Sellers doing "She Loves You".

Ha ha ha - How far is Manc from That London? At that future point when Deb and I venture to Blighty, we're stopping by to say hi.

About 300 miles, give or take.

DEAR GOD. Do you have that many miles there?? About how long to travel by train?

Couple of hours by train, assuming you get an express and there are no delays.
However, the train can be *very* expensive unless you book in advance. Like several hundred pounds expensive. If you're booking a month or so in advance though, you can do it for £20.

Actually, according to multimap.com, it's only 207 miles as the crow flies, depending on whereabouts in London.
Remember, London is in the far South East of the UK, while Manchester is in the North West. One of the things I love about Manchester ;)
The journey Land's End (Cornwall, about the southernmost point in mainland Britain) - John O'Groats (Scotland, about the northernmost) is about 840 miles by multimap's reckoning - but half of that is Scotland, which is pretty much empty as far as people go (Scotland has about the population of London, give or take). That's also a slightly twisted route.

Too right, sir. Looking at the map, Manchester does appear further than it was in my mind. It's half again as far as the distance from me to San Diego.

I don't have the relative sizes of countries too well conceived. That's good information. Thanks!

After additional research, it looks as though the UK is roughly the same size as California, area-wise. Not a tiny place, then. And like the UK, most of California is Scotland.

One night, I gazed for an age at that building, cold and shivering and waiting nearly an hour for a taxi to stop outside Chorlton Street Coach Station and take me to my hotel. I grew to hate those little guys.

Whereabouts is that building? I haven't been in Manc for nearly 4yrs now and I know before I left there was still lots of work happening, but I just don't recognise that at all...
