Self-referential
Jul. 19th, 2005 10:06 amI called Andrew passive-aggressive a couple of days ago and he said passive-aggressiveness didn't exist; it was a made-up American thing.
I told this to my friends at the pub quiz last night and
demiurgician said, "Wow. That's about the most passive-aggressive thing I've ever heard."
That made me laugh.

Letting other people decide things, saying anything was all right, but then being openly miserable at the results of anybody else's decision. Trying to make yourself out to be a martyr, like saying "oh, that's all right, I'll just sit here and be cold, as long as you're happy with the temperature".

holly_lama's explanation:
My third year in the dorms at the university, my roommate would often stay up all night studying. I didn't mind, except that he would, when finished at about 5 A.M., sharpen his pencils using a very noisy electric pencil sharpener.
My response to this was not to ask him to sharpen his pencils some other time, but rather to consider buying him a new, quieter pencil sharpener.
