Okay, so maybe I'm just weird, but today I happened to notice something strange about [livejournal.com profile] setharoo's bottle of Old Spice body wash. I thought it said something odd on the back, and upon closer examination, I was right. On the back, under the "how to operate body wash" directions, I saw that it said Won't wash away testosterone!

Perhaps it's indicative of the kinds of conversations I've been having recently, but my first thought was Man, that's too bad; it'd be useful... Well, actually I think that was my second thought, because the first one was just Huh? and it took a moment for that to go away. And it wasn't until my third thought that I got around to Oh, I suppose they're trying to convince guys that using body wash doesn't make them entirely girly.

But what if your body has unsightly testosterone stains?

But what about people for whom washing away testosterone would be a wanted feature? Doesn't anyone market a body wash for them? It's unfair, I tell you!

It's a pity too, because it would be damn useful!

It's not the body wash that inspires the "girly" feeling. I think it's the puff you use to lather.

"Now with MORE TESTOSTERONE!"

Yeah, the loofah puff thing is quite girly.

Um, but testosterone is a hormone? *within* the body? not secreted out AFAIK... *boggle*

Sometimes it surprises me that people promise anything in their ads/labeling since it's so easy to get sued. Knowing my luck, someone reading this had an experience in which testostorone was washed away by this product(or thought they might be able to "legally" [perhaps counterfactually] demonstrate this). Perhaps we should praise Old Spice for being courageous enough to advertise anything. How masucline! but isn't that what the whole point of their marketing is anyway. I imagine it's usually easier than this to reach, i.e. get through to, their intended audience. Then again that probably doesn't exactly include me:)
