His answer is better, though
Dec. 25th, 2004 10:59 pmI played Trivial Pursuit with my mom and brother today.
My mom, who usually considers herself successful if she manages to earn one piece of her plastic pie (and indeed celebrated quite enthusiastically when she got that first one today), won the first game.
She yelled and seemed quite pleased with herself, and while I agree that such a feat is amazing, it's still less impressive to me than the fact that my family voluntarily spent time together that wasn't in front of a TV. I mean, this way we actually had to talk and things!
We always do Christmas Eve with my mom's side, at her parents' house, but Christmas Day has become a bit depressing and anticlimactic in recent years, as my dad's side of the family doesn't talk to us any more so we don't have the plans we always did when I was younger.
This year, the games, wine, and candy made it a good day. Especially with moments like this:
I read a question to Chris that went something like "What did Donald Duncan hire 42 Filipinos to demonstrate across the US?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Chris said. "Did you just say Donald Duck?"
My mom burst into crazy laughter and I said, "No, Donald Duncan!" I repeated the question and checked the answer. I thought I knew it, and my guess was right. So I gave him the clue that'd given it away for me: "What does 'Duncan' make you think of?"
"Duncan ... doughnuts!" he said, and my mom and I were laughing again. "I don't know!"
"It's yo-yos!" I said. Of course.
