No crushes with eyeliner, though (right?)

paninogirl's tale of recent popularity with the LJ crush meme (and elsewhere on LJ, because she's just cool) inspired me to finally check out my own.

To my surprise, it said 5 people had a crush on me! (Now, perhaps I, as someone who accidentally got a bunch of people to say they'd have sex with her, geography permitting, shouldn't be surprised at this sort of thing, but it just proves that I'm not usually the sort of person!)

Rachel told me she had three, and had gotten them right on her first three guesses. I tried two of hers that seemed likely culprits to claim they had a crush on me as well, and sure enough, they showed up as 'mutual crushes.'

This just convinced Rachel that her crushes were meaningless because those guys must've just clicked on everybody's name so they could find out who their mutual crushes are. I assured her, though, that they are merely men of good taste, as evidenced by the fact that they say they like both of us.

Then I remembered that someone on my friends list said he said he had a crush on all of his friends, just to make a point, so I typed him in. There he was.

Rachel suggested a couple of names that should've been obvious, and one of those worked. We're good!

The last one, though, remained elusive. Just before I got bored with this and gave up, I typed in a name almost on a whim, and ... it didn't work! (Though I wasn't sure I'd spelled it right ...) Aww.

Guessing crushes is hard! That's what I told myself. It's also silly. But I didn't want to quit when I was so close to winning--albeit winning a guessing-game of no practical use whatsoever. It took me a while to even think of another whim to guess, so luckily--if surprisingly--I guessed right.

And then we went on to talk about how great blueberry crisp is. Love is okay, but dessert is guaranteed goodness.

This meme is the one in which they take "secret crush" data, but then put in their terms of service that they can do whatever they want with what you tell them. I never filled it out the first time. The people who did the first meme actually "sold" the secret crush information to all comers, which I thought extraordinarily tacky. I therefore never play this particular meme.

But it is funny!

I know about The Now-Infamous First Secret Crush Meme, and I also thought it was tacky.

But no one learned anything from it, of course, and now my friends page is all abuzz with things like 'I have 63 secret crushes! But I can only think of 29. Fess up! Take this poll I made for the occasion!'

I'm not ripping on the people that are doing that--they are, after all, my 'friends' (for some value of the word). I'm just saying that I don't get it.

I don't get crushes, actually. I had one once, in sixth grade. My best friend had a worse crush on him than I did. In retrospect, I wonder if I just acted like her, because I've not once since then found myself in a state I'd describe as 'having a crush on someone.' I just like people.

Of course, the fact that the sixth-grader upon which we had our 'crush' soon revealed himself to be a jerk may have helped cure me, as well. :-)

Why do a poll?

If you're really stummped, just add everybody on your friends and friends-of list, and it'll list your mutual crushes.

Of course, then you can be sneaky and delete as many crushes as you want.

There's one crush on me I still can't figure out. I haven't actually tried checking everybody on my friends list, but I can't figure out who I'd be missing.

(And yes, I've even checked a couple guys just to make sure.)
