Date: 2004-05-23 02:55 am (UTC)I think the Smiths were a good group, but it IS hard to imagine that Factory wouldn't have signed them, as Factory was so much about trying to show a Manchester spin on things, and the Smiths, for better or worse, came to be seen as quintessentially mancunian.
It amuses me, a bit, that Morrissey seems to be inspiring a new generation of worshippers. He's got the talent, I suppose, but the Smiths were always very much a band of their time. But maybe I'm missing their timeless appeal :).
