Eventful day

Besides being Star Wars Day (as
angel_thane and
stealthmunchkin had to point out: May the Fourth be with you), this is also Kevin Garnett Day. The mayor of Minneapolis said so.
Yes, Minnesota is a state full of dorks, as I mentioned yesterday. But the fact remains that Kevin Garnett got all but three of the votes for the NBA's Most Valuable Player.
Even better, though, the Timberwolves have finally gotten past the first round of the playoffs. They might get creamed now anyway, but it's still cool. Admittedly, I'm not a huge basketball fan these days, and admittedly I think it's lame to have so many teams get in the playoffs that we can all whine about the team never getting to the second round. But it's still cool when they do it.
I've inherited some of the love my dad has for all Minnesota sports teams. Mine isn't as unconditional or as all-encompassing as his, because my interest in sports is more sporadic anyway, but I do still like it whenever teams from Minnesota do well. (My dad even watched hockey games--more than two seconds' worth as he was channel-surfing--last year when the Wild were in the playoffs and doing so well, and he knows nothing about hockey. Which is why I know nothing about hockey, even though it's kind of cool-looking. (I watched the playoff games with him too.) But sports, like other geek hobbies, are only fun for me when there's someone around to get me interested in them, and just as no one's ever wanted me to play RPGs, no one's ever wanted me to watch hockey with them, either. But, I digress.)
