Good things

Is there any time the reflexive case is more appropriate than when talking to or about one's computer? "I didn't do it, it messed itself up!"

In a kinda-related note, here's something I've been thinking of off-and-on for a while but never got around to writing down: If I were a sociologist I would write my thesis on the ways people anthropomorphize their computers (which a lot of people seem to do, we talk to them, attribute moods to them, name them, treat them like pets or small gods or magic tokens whose nature we will never understand).

In a not-at-all-related note, I think I should get to write my Russian history paper on this thesis: Rasputin did not die. Why not? There are conspiracy theories about this sort of thing happening to JFK and Jim Morrison and other people who didn't verifiably evade death to the extent Rasputin did.

Well, it's better than Jenn's. She wants to write about how Elvis was an alien. I reminded her that it had to be about something, you know, Russian. So she said, "He could be a Russian alien!"

I don't know what it is that you and Jenn drink while you discuss your thesis topics...but can you please mail me a bottle of it? That must be some good stuff...

There's an interesting synergy (more interesting than the hirstute/bald theory of russian leadership).

Just before and just after communism there were leaders who nearly ran Russia. Rasputin and Putin.. coincidence?

If you mean for the hair, Yeltsin had hair, while Gorby and Putin are bald.

If you mean as the first post-commy leader, not really. Yeltsin took power moments BEFORE the fall of communism.

So she said, "He could be a Russian alien!"

Yes, he's an eeeeeevil occult mastermind who's trying to destroy most of the world by summoning Things That Should Not Be. He's very naughty.

Actually, I've heard good things about it from reputable people - for a comic film apparently it barely insults the audience's intelligence at all. I won't be going though because I haven't read the comics, and given the violence usually done to comics in the transition to film, I don't want to be put off...

Yeah, but you're not a comic person (yet... ;) ). I am, very much so... I get *angry* at things like League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which take an intelligent and witty comic and turn it into a brain-dead film.
Ghost World and American Splendor were good comic films though...

I loathe X-Men and Spiderman comics though (I always preferred DC to Marvel) and so I don't really have the comics to compare those to.

You *NEED* to read the comic... it's written by someone who I consider possibly the best writer of the last 20 years, and it shows *utter* respect to the original works... it's *amazingly* good...
