So, evil_grapefruit and I are talking about pee (remember that I found 20p in my purse and said "Oh, p!") and I told her that someone told me that they don't use "pee" as slang for urine in England.

"What do they use, then?" she asked.

It occurred to me that I did not konw. Nothing had been said on the matter. So she suggested uri. Short for urine, I suupose. And started using it in sentneces. "I have to go uri now." "Don't eat the yellow snow, it may have uri in it." "Uri is bad for you. It contains ammonia and...other harmful things."

Then she thought it sounded like the name of a country. (Indeed, when I first typed it here, I capitalized it wihtout even noticing. But that looked odd.) "I'm from Uri, and I speak Urian." I suggested it may be in the Ural Mountains somewhere.

I recommend not getting it confused with yuri, which is yaoi's counterpart, or Yuri, half of the Dirty Pair.

Although now I'm expecting somebody to write Yuri yuri involving uri. Um, yeah. [laughs]

In episode 9 of Cowboy Bebop, Jamming With Edward, one of the news programs covering the mysterious satellite land carvings has an interview with an alien conspiracy nutjob named Yuri Kellerman. In the English version, the actor does a cheesy Peter Lorre impersonation that's just hilarious. It's on the second DVD volume if you want to check it out - or you can just remind me when you come visit and I'll show it to you then.

I remember now! I thought it had to be related to Cowboy Bebop some how (because I've only seen three anime things that I like, and only one of those extensively, and it's not this one) but I wasn't really sure.

I'm sure Jenn would love it if you said you wanted to show me something about someone named Yuri when we got there. :-)

We do use it, but it's not all that common. "Piss" or more occasionally "slash" or (to children) "wee" are more common, at least in the social circles I move in.

german slang is pinkeln - ich muss pinkeln! Swedish - jag måste kissa. Always vital to know it.
