Adding insult to injury

Groundhog Day is stupid. I thought of this when I was little and kept waiting for it to go away. (Sometimes I'm of the opinion that stupid things will just self-destruct in front of my eyes; I did this last week in a dream I was having: I was playing music that had two flats--B♭ and G♭. But no matter how much I stared angrily at the G♭ in the key signature, it would not go away. Groundhog Day hasn't gone away either.)

How did this get to be a real holiday? It's on my calendar and everything. Sheesh.

So, if a groundhog comes out of his hole on this fateful day and it's cloudy, he's happy and spring is coming soon. If the sun is shining, he'll see his shadow and is scared enough to run back in his hole, which means we'll have six more weeks of winter.

But even as a kid I saw the flaw in this:

Six weeks from now would be the middle of March. In Minnesota, that is an early spring! The groundhog can't lose.

And I can't win.

LOL about the Bb and Gb! That'd be a what? The key of F with a flat 2nd?

And who ever wants a G♭ anyway?

I know; it's grotesque. I knew (the way you know things in dreams) that it wasn't supposed to be a G♭, it was supposed to be E♭--the stupid flat was just on the wrong line! I was playing tenor sax in the dream too, which would make B♭ a weird key to play in anyway (though I'm sure my brain was thinking of bassoon, the instrument I remember most fondly, which I often played in keys with a bunch of flats). Such a strange dream. I blame it on the trauma of my hideously boring Intro to Music class.

Oh, sorry, not that kind of holiday. Not a vacation (but don't I wish; I have such a deep desire to not go to class today). But it's official enough to be on my calendar, as I said, and that just seems silly to me.

But then, most holidays seem silly to me. Just wait 'til I get aroud to Valentine's Day ... :-)

Excellent ...

Makes me wish I could have Chipotle more. It's one of my favorite restaurants but the closest one's an hour and a half away.

I read the phrase "foiled again" somewhere and wanted to make an icon with a picture of some tinfoil involved in it somehow. But none of the pictures of foil were any good ... so I thought I'd look for a picture of something wrapped in tinfoil, and naturally Chipotle was the first thing that came to mind!

Groundhog's Day is not stupid.

It's one of the best semi-holidays of the year, it made a terrific movie, and best of all...

It's our darling fur-child's birthday...

Yes, it's true, my wife and I are such a couple of nerds that we refer to our dog as our fur-child.

Hello, I'd like to introduce myself: I am apparently the only person on the planet who does not think it's a great movie. I've seen it three or four times ... and that makes it feel like about sixteen times. And it wasn't that good the first four times. :-)
