Yeah, I'd noticed that, too. We must just all be so excited about it.
I meant to make "monkey" an option, actually, but forgot when I was making the poll. And of course you can't go back and edit polls ... So I ended up writing in a vote on my own poll. Monkey is winning, despite being a write-in, which I find amusing.
Maybe we're using the exclamation points to mean "duh, Holly, how could you miss this obvious answer!"
That was my first impulse, as well ... but we evolved from hairy things, as we evolved from things with tails, I suppose (which may explain the popularity of "monkey" as a write-in vote ... either that, or monkeys just have cool tails; that's why I voted for them). If people really did have tails, it might not be any more realistic for them to be rodent-like than it would for them to be hairy.
If people did have tails actually, they would probably be somewhat beaver-like (not exactly like that, but flattened) to help in swimming (which is, of course, how we lost our hair in the first place)
