"The English horn is neither English nor a horn."
Oh, speaking of Mike Myers, I remember hearing him, in an interview, making fun of nerds he knew who would say things like "I got to Level 5 but then I was killed by a gelatinous cube," and I used to think that was funny just because he was making fun of them. But last night I learned that there really is such a thing as a gelatinous cube in D&D--which may, for all I know, be obvious common knowledge to anyone who knows anything ... but I don't know anything; none of my geeky friends are RPG geeks.

Date: 2004-01-14 01:29 pm (UTC)Why do people make fun of Geeks anyway, I mean there's plenty of on college campuses, fraternities, (sororities?) all have Geeks in their name...
WAIT! That's Greeks (Awwwwe, what's one letter, anyhow?), not Geeks. Oh, well. Nevermind.

It's sad, really.

Date: 2004-01-14 05:18 pm (UTC)Blindsight: It can sense prey by sent and vibration withing 60 ft.
Ooze: Immune to mind-influencing effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning and polymorphing. Not subject to critical hits.
Engulf: A gelatinous cube can simply mow down Large or smaller creatures as a standard action. The gelatinous cube merely has to move over the opponents, affecting as many as it can cover. Those who do not attempt opportunity attacks must succeed at a Reflex save (DC 13) or be engulfed. Engulfed creatures are subject to the cube's paralysis and acid, and are considered to be grappled and trapped within it's body.
Transparent: Gelatinous cubes are hard to see, even under ideal conditions, and it takes a successful Spot check (DC 15) to notice one. Creatures who fail to notice a cube and walk into it are automatically engulfed.

Perhaps not as much as some of the others who have replied to this ... but I do know what a gelatinous cube is ... I can even spot the occasional rust monster in Futurama. ;P

Date: 2004-01-14 08:03 pm (UTC)I guess I just meant I don't have any real-life friends like that ... which may seem like unfair discrimination, but really it just means that the people I hang around can have a massive impact on my brain. THe LJ-friends' impact tends to be more subtle. :-)
Besides, I didn't know that you guys were all so into RPGs when I said this, anyway. Many seem intent on proving me wrong. But I knew I had a lot of geeks on my friends list, I know a lot of geeks are into such things. I was actually surprised that none of my real-life geek friends had managed to fill that niche yet.
I think all that might change soon...
