Dracula

I'm way behind in reading this, and I couldn't find it all afternoon. The book was just not anywhere in my room, not under anything, not in my backpack. I couldn't understand it. Then I noticed that there was a book sitting on top of my stereo, which is next to my desk, and yes, it was Dracula. In conclusion, I am very stupid, but happier now, because I have about 100 pages to catch up on. Tomorrow I have to forget everything I've read so far because we have a "reading exam" that's on everything we've read all semester in this class, except Dracula.

I'd forgotten how much I liked this book. Some time earlier this semester, Brad told us that there are Frankenstein people and Dracula people, and he is a Dracula person. That has become evident; just by looking and listening to him talk about the beginning of the book in class on Tuesday, he was obviously enjoying it. Classes are always more fun when your professor so obviously loves the subject at hand.

In honor of my having recovered the book and resuming reading it, I'll share with you this sentence I just read: "Why can't they let a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this trouble?"

Ooooh. Your journal set up is so nifty. I like to type in the green box, for some reason. Why does it look cooler, do you think?

You know, i don't even know how all the boxes got to be green--I don't remember changing that part of the color scheme (because I didn't know I could) it just showed up green one day, a little while after I'd changed the rest of the layout to all this greenish stuff. I didn't want to change it (and probably couldn't anyway, since I don't know how it got this way, exactly) because I agree that it is fun to type in the green boxes.

As for why it's cooler, I'm not sure. I do know that, given the choice between having black-text-on-white or white-text-on-black in my terminal windows, I prefer the latter. Maybe it's just because it's novel, or because the white letters seem to stand out more on the dark background, or something. I'm not sure.

I like them both but find the philosophy in Frankenstein to sometimes be over-bearing, so I lean toward Dracula. *g*

And you are allowed to like them both for very different reasons. *g*

I find for my taste stylewise, Dracula to be better written as well.

Well, yeah, you can like both. I do like Frankenstein too--though to a lesser extent than I used to, but that's probably just the trauma of having to read it for three different classes in the past few years--and my prof does too.

What I imagine he meant by his statement--what I took it to mean, at least--is that they say different things about one's personality or tastes or something like that. Like an inkblot test, that says more about you than about the inkblots.

I agree that Frankenstein can be overbearing and Dracula's very nicely written, but I don't think that's quite the same as why I'm a Dracula person instead of a Frankenstein person. Or maybe I'm just talking out of my butt.

Dracula rocks my socks. I haven't read Frankenstein yet, but it's on my Christmas list. I have way too many books I want to read.
