Being a girl is too much work

Monday I wore a skirt, because it was very hot and I don't have any shorts here. I don't really like shorts. So I wore my khaki skirt and a nicer shirt than I might usually wear, since my t-shirts look dumb with a skirt.

Today, I almost went to class in sweatpants that are too big for me (too long, anyway, but what isn't?) and my binary t-shirt--the clothes I wore to work last night. I eventually relented and got dressed; now I'm wearing wrinkled but nice pants, the first shoes I could find a matching pair of, and a t-shirt with iron-on transfer letters that say "Give me ambiguity or give me
something else!" It's a shirt I've had forever; Matthew made it for me. My mom tells me it's "tacky," which is her word for "I don't like it and don't think you should ever wear it again." I happen to like old things and quirky t-shirts, so I snuck this into my suitcase the last time I was home.

Still, I must admit, the quality of my appearance is rapidly decreasing this week.

My favorite is one someone made me of one of my own quotes:
"I've decided I may take the initiative to be interested in possibly making a decision to do something productive and beneficial soon...maybe."
and it's got a sign post with arrows pointing in all directions...

Matthew (and ivana_duboise) are incredibly good at thinking up these odd things to say, and they do sometimes end up on Matthew's t-shirts.

At one point, the one I'd really like to see is ... well, like all the good ones, there's a story: after ivana_duboise told me that all he remembered of his high school Spanish would probably fit in one sentence. He told me a bunch of nouns and a verb; I conjugated the verb and we ended up with "Yo veo las iguanas comen el helado en la estufa en mis pantalones." Which says (well, it should say) "I see the iguanas eating ice cream in the stove in my pants."

Anyway, as nearly as I can remember, this t-shirt of mine came about due to some actual conversation about Patrick Henry, I believe. I do remember that an earlier version was something like "Give me bandwidth or give me death," so the original impetus for the conversation is apparent.

I like this shirt, too.

And that, for some reason, reminds me of the time Matthew gave me a ride home a few weeks ago. His tendencies to speak in German randomly seem to increase when he's driving, or at least they did this day. ("Fährt schneller!"--drive faster--constituted probably half of it all by itself.) At one point I remember him saying something to "der Mann" in the car aheard of us ... it was probably "fährt schneller!" because we soon passed the car. And when we did, Matthew admitted, "Der Mann ist eine Frau" rather grudgingly.

Yeah, it's impossible not to love. :-) It isn't quite white any more--it was an old shirt even before I gave it to him to decorate--and the letters are faded ... and I'm sure my mom doesn't think it's funny anyway. But I like it, and I'm glad to hear that my friends do, too.

I wore a skirt! To class! It was fun and I'll probably even do it again (soon ... before it gets too cold ... )! So what're you complaining about? :-D

He has a point. Though if Tess were ever going to be happy enough to say "wheee," it just might be while walking down the street in a skirt.

Still, I think she should be proud of me; in my world, wearing a skirt is unusual.
