A bedtime story
Mar. 4th, 2003 11:17 pmOne day last year I was reading something in The Onion called "Who Says Java Programmers Don't Have a Sense of Humor?" I know it was called that, becasue I just found it again. Ain't the Internet a great thing?
There was one line I really liked: There's just something about Java that seems to attract the clinically insane! I laughed at that and later wrote it on the whiteboard on Katie's and my door.
Sometime later I walked past Al's door, which was just down the hallway, and I noticed she'd copied what I wrote onto her own whiteboard. No...wait. Almost the same, but not quite. Hers said, There's just something about java that seems to attract the clinically insane!
I think I was walking with someone, because I remember laughing very hard and having to explain myself. "See, when you capitalize the word it's a programming language. When you don't, it's coffee."
The second-best part of this story is that a little thing like capitalization makes a big difference.
The best part of the story is that the statement is probably true in both cases. Java and java attract the clinically insane.

I admit it. I'm a bit off my rocker. I'd have to be. I taught Java for Sun Microsystems for 18 months.
Java is my favorite general purpose language at this point, however ;-)
