I like poetry like I like pickles

Al likes my poem. Not my poem, the Kerouac poem I'm apparently going to read for my creative writing class tomorrow. She says it reminds her of William Carlos Williams'
This Is Just To Say
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
"Maybe it's just because it has the word 'icebox' in it," she said. We think it's more, though. They're both small, intense and fun. Al said maybe we like those more than "The Red Wheelbaroow" because we don't have as much experience with wheelbarrows or chcikens as we do food and iceboxes. I liked that idea. I like feeling connected to poems.

I ate a big pickle slice with my turkey sandwich as we talked. I don't ususally eat pickles, and I like the baby ones best. Maybe just because I only want a bit of pickle...but I swear the little ones taste better. I like little poems best too. Does that mean I only want a little bit of poetry? Probably. But I swear the little ones are the best. I like being able to think of the whole poem at once, like eating a pickle in one bite.
