What's your name, where are you from, and which committee(s) are you standing for?
Sarah Noble,
West Yorkshire (Calderdale and Leeds)
FPC

Are you standing for the first time or restanding? If first time what new thing do you bring that nobody else could; if restanding, what about your record are you most proud of that you think should make us vote you back in?
First time.

Youth diversity and LBT+ diversity on committees is severely underrepresented. I feel that I can bring a unique perspective to what radical policy can do to help disadvantaged people such as myself.

Are you standing for any other committees, if so which ones; and if elected to more than one how do you plan to divide your time?
Only FPC.

Are you an active member of any SAOs, and if so which ones?
LGBT+ Liberal Democrats, executive member since 2014.

If someone asked you on the doorstep, the hustings or on TV to sum up in one or two sentences what the Lib Dems, uniquely, stand for – and then why anyone should vote for us – what are your answers?
The Lib Dems exist to create a society that is open to and tolerant of our many differences, celebrating diversity and supporting everybody.

What is your view on diversity quotas for committees? Should they be extended to cover more than just gender, scrapped totally, kept as is or something else?
In a perfect world, diversity quotas wouldn't be needed. They cannot be used simply to elevate people who, although under-represented within the party structures, are over-represented within their diversity strands, as has often happened under Labour's implementation. The party needs to do more to support and promote BAME women, LBT women, and disabled women, and likewise, when we talk about LGBT+ diversity, we must ensure that L,G,B,T *and* + are represented.

Secrecy rules prevent the party knowing what committees are doing. What will you do to communicate with members; and in what circumstances is confidentiality justified?
Serving on the FPC working group for sex work, we received confidential evidence under Chatham House rules. I would not wish to change such a system if it would discourage people from contributing to our evidence-based policy.

However, like what happened over the social security paper, there was a lot of consternation due to the FPC being seen to reject a policy proposal without much justification. I would like to see the FPC be more pro-active in policy consultation outside of Conferences, and if votes are taken in committee meetings, I would like for the results of those votes to be available to party members to allow them to give feedback (much like Zoe O'Connell has done for FPC).

If you had the power to do so unilaterally, what one party (not government) policy would you change, and what would you change it to?
Nuclear weapons; I would want to change it to an unequivocal commitment to disarmament.

What is your view on electoral pacts? Should the party make them, and if so, who with?
I would support electoral pacts with any party or candidate that shared our key values, and where such a pact would help prevent a party opposed to our values from winning. I would expect a bilateral agreement so that we are not simply standing aside for a larger party.
