There's a lot of "I'm done with work for the year!" joyousness being mentioned on my facebook, which is fair enough really! But it makes me a little wistful that I don't have a job to be on holiday from, or even any plans except to make a cake for my birthday party tomorrow.

I know not everyone is -- I was thinking as I wrote this of diffrentcolours, who has to go to work next week too.

I guess what I really want is to ever feel like I'm done. :) Doing all the housework and errands while I'm not employed, and preparing to deal with my family over the holidays and soothing an autistic person who has to deal with both transatlantic travel and my family, I never seem to be done.

The children mean that we are never really done, although at least at home I think we have got to a point where days not at work are actually more restful than workdays. There is still always the housework and the child-wrangling to do, but they are growing more independent and occasionally even helpful with the housework, and so we can have downtime too.

Taking the children elsewhere, or hosting visitors: not so much.

One of the many reasons I don't have kids, despite how much I like them, is that I know there would be a lot more of that never-done feeling, and I just don't see how I would cope with any more. I very much admire people to do. I'm glad you are getting some distinction between work days and not-at-work days; that's what really matters I think.

I get that, even if I'm the opposite and wishing I had two weeks off from work. (Retail last two years, at least this year I have holidays off.)

A friend has offered to make my traditional birthday cake (my mom always made the same one for me) so I don't even have to do that this evening! I'm looking forward to the cake and seeing people tomorrow.
