[86/365] Beartown
Mar. 27th, 2021 07:05 pmOn Wednesday I got a text at work that really made me grin. It was
diffrentcolours saying "Hmm, I know we're planning on doing very little this weekend [this was before I knew I had to work tomorrow, heh!] but how about a road trip to pick up a 5L https://www.beartownbrewery.co.uk/product/creme-bearlee-fridge-pack/ ?" Five liters of beer sounds like a hilariously large amount, but he helpfully also pointed out "That's about 8 pints, which is 2 pints per person per weekend over 2 weekends."
I've been excited ever since.
I love driving adventures, going to new places, anyway but they're a special treat now. We figured out today that the 20 miles we drove today is the furthest away we'd been since Whitby at Halloween. (And the new second-place trip was a visit to a DIY store eight miles away when the nearer one didn't have the thing we needed, just to give you some scale of not just the distance but the (lack of) fun involved in these trips.) It's just good for my eyes and my brain to see buildings and roads I'm not used to and don't have to worry about. We admired cows in fields, the silly names of pubs, and the unseen (at least by me) but known presence of Jodrell Bank nearby.
Second, the beer! Beartown is a favorite brewery of mine, one of those I'll always go for if I see it in a pub, and one particularly associated with the Molly House which is a particular favorite of mine (and
diffrentcolours; it's certainly seen us sink a few pints). And Beartown beers aren't ones I see in bottles in supermarkets, so I was really thrilled to have a chance at tasting something I hadn't had for this whole pandemic year. It felt like I was being invited to travel to some other dimension or something.
We ended up with some cans and bottles as well as the fridge pack, but since that's the one with the time limit, and since that's the Creme Brarlee which we particularly like, we're starting on that. It tastes amazing, and it feels so good to be drinking a pint of this out of my glass from the MOSI beer festival however many years ago.
