Matthew made a Sim called Stupid Loser and a family of Money--Embezzled, Dirty, and Monopoly. Mr. Loser came over for a visit and Matthew made him and Dirty stand on the lawn and talk. "They seem compatible," he said. "I want them to fall in love."

So there he sat, watching the Sims talk about their Sim things, being happy when new options showed up so he could make them joke and compliment and other things besides just talking. It seemed odd to me, watching him watch this romance. Romance, as far as I know, is not something he's very interested in. I knew it had to be something else.

At some point I got my answer; I can't remember if I asked Matthew or if he was just talking to his Sims, as he is wont to do, but I remember him saying, "I want to see them kiss!"

He pursued his goal with single-minded determination, and wouldn't let the Sims go away to eat or do other things until they fell in love. "You're gonna talk, and then joke, and talk some more, and give a gift ... " He continued demanding affection of these two hapless Sims until he could make them kiss.

Even then he wasn't happy. "Aw, man! Stupid chaste kiss." That made me laugh. I never knew he found kissing so interesting. He made them do more things and then kiss again, with the same, apparently disappointing, results.

I think eventually I asked him why he wanted to see them kiss--the "good" kiss--and he said it was merely because he wanted to hear the music that played then. Ah yes; it has been a while since I played The Sims but I do remember that.

I told him about how he shouldn't pick those two to fall in love; Dirty's last name would become Loser! They'd have kids who'd have to say "My parents' names are Stupid and Dirty."

Eventually he gave up on that and went back to playing Tropico, which--if you ask me--is just more proof that he shouldn't get to be in charge of people's lives.
