My idea of an IM conversation
Aug. 16th, 2003 01:01 pm(12:42:13) angus_scrimm1: whats new with you today?
(12:43:25) angus_scrimm1: that much, eh?
(12:43:58) holly_lama: Oh, sorry; I don't have my speakers on so I forget there might be new messages.
(12:44:07) holly_lama: "Not much" is still the correct answer, though.
a short while later ...
(12:49:07) angus_scrimm1: Heh.
(12:49:24) angus_scrimm1: eddie murphys best ep of saturday night live
(12:49:37) angus_scrimm1: i forgot about buckwheat
By this point, I'm trying to print something and my printer isn't working. It says it is, but it isn't. It's uncommon of Linux to lie to me about this kind of thing. My attention is consumed. Oh yeah, and did I mention there's no little IM ringing sounds because my speakers aren't on? Little IM ringing sounds are made for people like me. As I'm about to prove here.
(12:50:56) angus_scrimm1: how was the LJ interview?
(12:52:05) angus_scrimm1: hmm. i guess i better keep up the conversation myself then.
(12:52:07) angus_scrimm1: hi matt
(12:52:10) angus_scrimm1: hi matt
(12:52:14) angus_scrimm1: hows your day?
(12:52:31) angus_scrimm1: oh, looking for a nice relaxing second to the last day of work. You?
(12:52:50) angus_scrimm1: Well, im looking at codes to screw with scott. Fun fun!
(12:53:02) angus_scrimm1: eh, i wont miss that place at all.
(12:53:06) angus_scrimm1: me neither.
(12:53:11) angus_scrimm1: hey matt?
(12:53:13) angus_scrimm1: what?
(12:53:32) angus_scrimm1: what the hell is that commercial with the dancing pencil about?
(12:54:01) angus_scrimm1: eh, looks like an office max ad. At least its better than 'the man show'
(12:54:06) angus_scrimm1: sho nuff.
(12:54:18) angus_scrimm1: how come nobody ever uses that in conversation anymore?
(12:54:41) angus_scrimm1: It should be used! As well as 'honkey'.
(12:55:06) angus_scrimm1: yeah, the culture never really adopted enough of blacksploitation in the long term.
(12:55:19) angus_scrimm1: Shaft will go the way of the dinosaur....
(12:55:26) angus_scrimm1: not to mention foxy brown.
(12:55:33) angus_scrimm1: *sniffle*
(12:55:46) angus_scrimm1: Hmmm.
(12:56:08) angus_scrimm1: although realistically, what elements of beatnick culture have spanned the generations?
(12:56:22) angus_scrimm1: Killing beatnicks and commies?
(12:56:30) angus_scrimm1: no really, what has endured?
(12:56:49) angus_scrimm1: i would have to say that.....
(12:56:51) angus_scrimm1: hmm.
(12:57:45) angus_scrimm1: well, in a larger sense when considering what it was a reaction to. I would say that it was the pseudo archetype for the movements of the late 60s
(12:58:27) angus_scrimm1: both in its generally similar causes via the plastic fantastic post war ethic, and its being somewhat of a reaction to it
(12:58:37) angus_scrimm1: yeah... that i see
(12:58:59) angus_scrimm1: perhaps the hippys walked on the backs of beatnick giants?
(12:59:21) angus_scrimm1: are you realistically paraphrasing quotes about early science to this?!?!
(12:59:32) angus_scrimm1: well, this was a good conversation matt.
(12:59:40) angus_scrimm1: yeah, well have to do this again sometime
(12:59:43) angus_scrimm1: later!
(12:59:46) angus_scrimm1: cya
(12:59:51) angus_scrimm1 logged out.
(13:00:06) I check the IM window again, and think: I have such understanding friends.
(12:43:25) angus_scrimm1: that much, eh?
