I had no interest in The Ring when I first saw the trailer. I didn't get it, and I didn't care. I always think I can write horror movies off with impunity; they never scare me, I'm usually just bored.

But I loved it. Even more than I thought I would. It inspired in me shock, revulsion, and a case of the screamin' heebie jeebies. The only thing wrong with my experience with this movie was a nagging question: "Would this be better if it weren't so blurry?" (My glasses are still missing; replacements are supposed to be here Monday or Tuesday.) I think it would have been. Some things I wasn't properly scared by, and some of the "clues" I didn't catch at all.

Was it for this movie that the trailer ended with "Don't see it alone"? Or was that Signs? I don't remember...but it should have been this one (not Signs! Signs didn't scare me at all--though I have a friend who says she locked her bedroom door for a week after seeing it...).

At some point during the movie I had a thought that Tess articulated rather well afterwards: "I don't think that would be a very good movie to watch alone after midnight..." Immediately followed by "when's the DVD coming out?"

My thoughts exactly.
