Friend: "How are you doing?"
Me: "Bad. [details]
Friend: "Aw. Is there anything I can do to help?"

This has been a really common scenario for me lately.

Usually at this point I say "No, but thanks."

But when Stuart and I had this conversation last week, I said, "can I help you build Daleks again?"

He seemed to think it was a really random thing to do, but honestly I can think of few better things for me than hanging out in a shed learning how to make fiberglass.

Stuart's a great person to learn things from too. He's very specific when explaining how to do something (especially welcome since I'm blind and all), but otherwise really expansive, saying "we're doing it this way but you could also do it this way" and "after this, the next step you won't be here for is this." I like that he's not just so knowledgeable but also so generous with what he knows, without ever being self-aggrandizing or tedious about it. I know the best people.
